The first day of school is always such an exciting time! New classrooms, new teachers, new friends, new clothes.. it’s such a memorable time! We always did the traditional first-day-of-school photos on the front steps of my house growing up and we have many treasured photos of those times.
These days, parents have added an extra element by creating signs for kids to hold in their photo featuring their new teacher’s name, their age, their likes and hopes for the future. These signs are wonderful for capturing all those little bits of information that are sometimes lost as we get older!
I made some of these back-to-school signs with my kids throughout the years – sometimes written on a chalkboard to hold, sometimes a printout. I did have one of those ready-made boards once, but it was hard to write on and didn’t show up well with the chalk pens I had, so ended up donated – hopefully someone had better luck with it than I did!
Canva Editable First Day of School Photo Signs
I decided to make a couple designs in Canva to share with you all, in case anyone is looking for a quick and easy sign that can be printed last minute and will look great in your first day photos!
There are two cute and colorful designs – just edit the text in Canva, print out and you’re ready to go!
You can also edit the templates to a new size in Canva and have printed out a print shop if you prefer a larger sign than the US letter size (8.5 x 11 inches). Just click on the ‘Resize’ button in the top left hand of the screen and resize to your desired dimensions, and then adjust the elements to fit the page.
